Title: Commanderwiggins' 2012 Supercharged Tacoma
Post by: Commanderwiggin on July 09, 2012, 05:57 PM
Well despite telling myself I was going to leave the truck N/A...boost calls.  Placed the order yesterday for a TRD Supercharger which runs about 6.7psi at sea level (less at elevation) and retains the factory warranty if installed by a Toyota Dealer.  Cost of Supercharger in Canada >$6500...Cost of Supercharger in USA $3860 + Duty, Taxes and $ Conversion.  Install was quoted at 8 hours labour @120 an hour.  Not the cheapest little bit of horsepower but w/e.  Slated for a baseline dyno at Speedfactor on Monday next week...supercharger install on Tuesday...most likely S/C Dyno on Wednesday.  Anyway's here's the details:

As it sits now...these pictures were after a fresh detail by Jon Laco of Rebirth Detailing here in Winnipeg...did a great job on my M3 previous and again did a great job on the Truck.

Here's some pics after I installed my Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit (D2S) from theretrofitsource...in all honesty if I could do it again I would go with the FXR's...the Mini kit has been more of a pain to get lined up then the FXR's would be in my opinion and probably has more light output.

For anyone getting the Mini's do not expect the alignment to be perfect...the alignment is about 15' off and will require cutting...and if I'm cutting a little I may as well have cut alot. Not very happy...it looks good on the outside but I wanted a quick install not having to fool around.

Here's a pic of the install though...looks good with the BHLM on the 2012's and gatling shrouds!

So after many frustrations including a massive mishap with some epoxy glue and a broken notch on my bulb ...we have success!! FXR's coming someday

My Sound System:
Well finally got everything together except for sound deadener and a 2012 dash kit...the 2011 dash kit doesn't fit right and I don't like it...more pics later when I get back in a month or so.

Sound so far is extremely good, awesome bass and I haven't even tuned the system yet. I'll do the tuning after the speakers have broken in a bit more.

Heres the stock LOL speakers...they weigh as much as a sheet of paper:

Work in progress:

Everything cleaned up all nice and such...no recent pics unfortunately and I'm not taking everything apart for a while.
Installed everything myself and soldered ever single connection...Headunit custom made plugs so everything is plug and play and no cutting of OEM wiring including steering wheel controls...If I decide to go back to the stock deck it is all plug and play (including OEM speakers)

I always bring my M3 when it's nice out ;)  If it rains I'll bring the truck lol.  I did bring it to the drift event but everyone was oogling the Gonzo.

Not putting on the blower yourself? I'd think that would feel more like fun then work, lol.

I'd sooner do it myself but that voids the factory warranty...brand new truck so I'd like to keep the warranty :)

how much of an increase are you expecting?
Title: Commanderwiggins' 2012 Supercharged Tacoma
Post by: Commanderwiggin on July 16, 2012, 05:06 PM
60 across the board should be expected...I'll get a pulley a little later which should add an extra 2psi and I'll re-dyno when that happens.

I brought my GoPro and it was dead unfortunately...I'll get the video with the supercharger on video for sure.  I was also in the truck when on the dyno so I couldn't really hold the iphone and take a vid and didn't really screw around...I was in and out of the shop in like 20min and dropped the truck off at Toyota early as the master tech wanted to have a look at everything.

Scheduled for the dyno at 8am tomorrow morning ;)  I put around 150km on my beast yesterday with the S/C installed...had to do a bunch of yardwork and ended up making 3 trips to the dump with the entire box full of dirt and then brush on top of that for several loads...definitely pulled very nice.  It actually seemed to wake up a bit after the loaded runs which is what alot of the other TRD S/C owners had mentioned after their first impression...it could be I'm just getting used to it but I doubt it...the truck has learned!!! LOL

Got a little unlucky with a leaky tire however and must've hit a nail or something as I got a flat on my way back from my last dump run...the full size spare has officially paid off ;)

Well here's the dyno...not really impressed by the numbers but it was 80% Humidity today and 90'F and the circulation wasn't very good in the building.  Still expected at least another 10hp+tq but stock intake and cats are probably holding me back a bit.  I'll be back for another one when it cools down to see if it makes a difference and some more miles on it.  Might upgrade to a cold air intake and delete some cats in the future :D

Still got an increase across the whole powerband and it's definitely noticeable ;)

Nice Truck.

Might I make a suggestion?

http://www.pulleyboys.com/store/product.php?productid=64&cat=90&page=1

Some of this will make your truck happy. I know alot of the Camry guys in the past used these guys pulleys as the Stock TRD SC for them only put out like ... 4psi of boost or something. This is like taking the Restrictor plate off the Red Dragon ;)

The restrictor plate will be coming off sooner or later...I plan on getting a pulley that looks completely OEM ;)  Allen Phillips Racing used to make them but Underdog Racing Development is making a new batch of 2.85" (or 2.825") Pulleys that look completely OEM that should bump the boost up from 6psi to 8psi and my tune/injectors is still well within safety zones.

I also was expecting around 260rwhp and 300rwtq but w/e; very poor conditions today to be doing a dyno in such high humidity and heat.  It still has an OEM intake and both sets of cats.  Going to get a cold air intake along with a URD Y-Pipe which eliminates the rear cats (doesn't throw codes).  Gotta okay this through the dealership but shouldn't be a problem.  I'm also going to see about getting Doug Thorley Short Tube (Retains primary cats) headers.

I'm sure with better conditions and the air flow change of CAI and cat delete, you will see another bump yet. Looks good either way :-)
