Title: Executive Tinting - Highly Recommended
Post by: Coach on April 02, 2013, 04:34 PM
Hey,

Had the windows on the Corolla done today by Wes at Executive Tinting.  He did a good job and didn't mind me hanging out and watching.
Wes is a good guy and I would recommend you spend your money with companies like his.

Looks great Wes, Thanks

+1 for Wes, did a great job on my car and had fun chatting with him while he was doing it!

I've only ever heard positive reviews about Wes.  I think I am the only person ever to have a bad experience with him lol.  That tint job cost me my rear defrost and I was quoted $1100 to replace the rear hatch glass :(

I think he was having a bad day when he did my car, I've never heard anything else negative about him.

When I called to confirm my appointment he had double booked but he took me because I had made my appointment first.  I showed up on time and he started to tint my car.  One of his friends stopped by the shop as he was starting and he chatted with him while he tinted my car.  He was in a huge rush and tinted the whole of my car in 45 minutes.  I don't know if he was rushed because of the double booking or if he wanted to spend more time with his buddy but he was clearly in a rush.

I had 7 windows tinted on my car and I had problems with 5 of them.  There were bubbles in them and the rear window was very bad with bubbles perhaps 3 inches in diameter.  I know tint takes a week to 'cure' so I was patient and I didn't even contact him until after a week had passed.  I was able to use a heat gun and fix 2 windows.  Wes made a follow up appointment and he was able to fix another by pressing harder and getting the bubbles out.  He had to completely replace the tint on one door and the rear glass.

When you replace tint you have to scrape off the old adhesive and when he replaced the tint on the rear glass he damaged the rear defrost while getting rid of the adhesive.  I didn't know the rear defrost was damaged until it got cold out and I only had 2 clear stripes across my rear window.  The tint looks great all around the car now though after he spent more time on the second attempt.

Some people might be able to put up with a half clear rear window but I can't so I am replacing the rear glass.  I was quoted $800 for the glass and $300 for labour.  I never got in touch with him to help pay for the glass because I just don't feel like arguing with him.  It's not like I have pictures of the rear defrost working before the tint was applied.

Well that would upset me as well.  If I were you I would contact Wes and tell him about the cost of the window.  I'm not saying he should pay for it to be fixed, but I think he should help you out in some way.

My experience with Wes was a lot different.  I would say no one's perfect, however he should do right by you or at least try too.  You need to give him a chance as well.

Yeah, I probably would have at least let him know about the issue and given him a chance to fix it, for all he knows you're happy with it. Small business live and die by their reputation so they tend to go the extra mile.

Don't you know canadian tire has a defroster line repair kit for like 15 bucks?

How much on average does it even cost to tint your windows assuming say you have 5-6 windows?

From what ive heard it seems to do a pretty good job may have to see him one of these days to get my car retinted

Every car is bound to be a little different, but for reference he quoted me 200 for a sedan (4 windows + rear windshield). Includes lifetime warranty as long as I own the car.

Last year we did a group buy on window tint from Slick Tint. Had about 15 cars join in at 150 bucks a pop for a sedan. Bit cheaper for a coupe.

Don't you know I'd have to completely remove the tint and then scrape off the adhesive once again before using that stuff?  I'm not going to pull the tint off again and spend all day painting every defrost line back onto my window in the hope I can fix it.  We're not talking about a 10 year old car here.  I once used that repair kit to fix my rear defrost in an old Ford I owned and it fixed the broken line.  There is also a $50 kit available to install a rear defrost grid onto a car that does not have one.  If I didn't care about the car or if it wasn't a nice car I might take that approach but I prefer to fix the STi correctly.  I already bought the rear glass from Subaru in the US for $500 now I just have to get it installed.

Believe it or not a couple of the body shops I have called about installing the glass said I should just have thrown something through the rear window and made an AutoPac claim since I have a $200 deductible but I'm too honest for that.

I've never dealt with Wes personally, but I've heard nothing but good things and don't doubt in the slightest bit that he would help you out in some way.
I won't be going to Wes, not because of his reputation, but I've had nothing but success with Dan @ Slick Tint, and will continue to give him my business as long as I can.
Might be another option if you're just not comfortable with going to Wes any more at this point, but as I said, I do not doubt him helping you out in some way.

Don't you know that you don't have to scrape off adhesive if you followed a proper DIY? If you heat it up enough it all comes off in one piece with the adhesive.. yes even on the rear window. I've done it.

15 dollar fix (even 50) over a 800 dollar rear window replacement? I'm sorry but you should get your head checked.

Perhaps you could show Wes how you did that and my headache could have been avoided.  I should get my head checked because I prefer to fix something the right way?  OK, I guess I do.  I'm not sure why you care so much, I'm not asking you to pay for it.  I haven't even asked Wes to pay for it, it's coming out of my pocket so I think I get to choose how I want to fix it.

well, noones perfect but out of the few thousand cars ive done one major mistake which i had no idea until way later without prior knowledge all i can say is i wish i knew. I`d hate for one of my people to have troubles or issues on my behalf, I have contacts and connections for alot of vehicular repairs, anyone else with any problems or want to know where to go for some good work let me know, ive dealt with alot of crooks ( fantasy custom auto, drag mart) *ahem cough barf* in my own experiences, and alot of great guys (showridez, VL auto) out in the auto field, glad to say i know who to trust with my own rides for work.  take care, buckle up, and drift happy :)

Wes is a cool guy.
Got my rears done and when I told him about some of the problems I had he said he would redo them.

VL auto was great when I was there and a friend's car that recently left Showridez looked mint but I haven't seen it up close yet.

I'll contact you when the temps are not below freezing anymore Wes.

i had post a review somewhere , cant find the thread now but wes alwell did a great job on my vehicle. Stay around in the shop while he worked on the car , after only 50 min wes was finaly done and looked great. I did a quick inspection for bubbles tears and fixed the few minor issues. after 2 weeks later a few bubbles are here to stay but with life time warranty im not going to point out every error .

Would recommend wes to anybody , Has nothing to do with the fact i was able to get a quick pressure wash on the way out the shop !

Also, all the horror stories that came from the group buy, I wouldn't even bother.

Wes has done my buddies truck, and his mustang a couple years before and he had absolutely nothing bad to say about his work. His reputation clearly precedes him.

I want to have my fishbowl status changed (hopefully) in the spring and I'll no doubt be calling Wes to do it.

HAHAHAHAHA don't even get me started on horror stories. I suggest you look into getting a pair of prescription bifocal glasses so you can compare our work side by side....better yet, compare it to any other shops work in the city. I can easily pin point his work, Automotive and flat glass. To me, that's not a good thing.
I should be able to look at someones work and say "wow, that's a great job"  Instead of, " I know exactly who did this, I'll call them and try to get your money back so I can fix it for you "

I promise you, I'm not the only one who feels this way. Some people are just delusional to what's acceptable in a quality installation and I can not control that. Everyone has their own expectation and all I'm saying is that my bar is set A LOT higher. I strive for perfection and want to provide the highest quality installations I possibly can.  No, dirt, no bubbles, micro-edge the top of roll down windows for a factory tinted look and absolutely no scratches all over your newly tinted windows from broke down squeegee's and hard cards, etc... These things take time and preparation.

I will gladly take the extra time to go the extra mile for my customers that expect perfection. I refuse to just slap the tint on the windows as fast as I can Just to make a quick buck which will more than likely just end up coming back to me for a removal and re tint. I do the best possible job I can the FIRST TIME and move on to the next job. That's it, that's all.

Wes and I both have our own group of clients off of Top Tier. Some prefer me over him and some prefer him over me and that's how it's always going to be. You're not gonna break my heart if you choose him over me Vince lol  On a side note, I'm sure I've seen you around, You live in Westwood as well?

Was it really necessary to return posting to the forum to put down someone else's work? I can see standing up for your own, but no need to start putting down his as well. Perhaps its a coincedence as I see you offered garage space too to FL (Maybe to make a quick buck, who knows), but it doesn't really look too good from a customers perspective when someone trying to gain business has to resort to putting down others work in the same field.

Not saying anything against your work whatsoever, as I have no experience, however, this is just how its viewed from an outside perspective.

I was offering space just in general, kinda just meant that if he wanted his windows tinted at the same time I could have done it for him, That's all.

On a positive note I will say Wes has got much better with his work which is nice to see. Is he as good as me yet... I'll leave that up for customers to decide.
From what I hear he's a great guy so props to him for doing the best he can to offer quality installations.

Dan,

The way you conduct yourself in this post does not speak highly of your professionalism. A professional business does not publicly attack another business. You should be letting your customers do the reviews for you so you don't have to stoop so low and do it yourself.

Speaking from personal experience, your work is decent but your attitude towards the customer and your lack of professionalism are what stop me from referring you to others. I am not the only one who has had an issue with you. You can find many more unhappy customers in this thread http://toptierimports.com/index.php?topic=3794.0.

If you feel the need to attack one of our vendors due to a personal beef you have with them please do it privately over private messages.

As I stated before, you should be letting your work and your customers back up your claims and not have to resort to public attacks.

You're hearing me, but you're posting this stuff.   I'm just making an observation, but you seem to have it out for him.  Ive met wes on several occasions and he has never brought up this kind of stuff.  Its time to let the "love hate relationship" go, and move on.   You say he has a hard for you, but i think its the other way around.   Putting out a negative feed like this will affect your business.   even if it is minor....

Time to move on and get some clean air bud.  And i'm not saying this to be a dick, i'm saying this to help you....

GL with the buisness.

You're not gonna break my heart if you choose him over me Vince lol  On a side note, I'm sure I've seen you around, You live in Westwood as well?

Do you think you're going to add to your customer base, or push potential customers away based on how you speak to people online?

That's it, that's all.

i was looking to get my windows tinted this summer and based off your post i will be going to Wes. Your attitude and lack of professionalism is disgraceful. even IF soomething happened and i have to goback to Wes to get something corrected, i would rather do that then deal with your attitude 1 time.

We all have bad days Igor, You caught me on a bad day haha. Also, spilling coffee all over yourself in the back of a tiny 2 door coupe doesn't help very much either lol  Customers can either make or break your day. Wes and I can both relate to that as we have discussed this before.

I have never met Wes in person, just talked with him over the phone a few times and Yes from what I hear he is a very good guy. Can we become friends and combine our businesses together..? who knows, Anything is possible. That way you would get to see both our ugly mugs at the same time hahah

Igor hit the nail on the head.

You have no excuse.

How you conduct yourself speaks volumes of your "professionalism", not to mention the innumerable amounts of spelling and grammar mistakes.

Conduct yourself differently and people will see you in a better light.

You guys realize this thread is for reviews of Executive Tinting, right?

If you want to know how much it will cost to have your vehicle tinted, I suggest giving Wes a call. Here's his number -  +1 (204) 996.7100 , and his website is http://executivetinting.net/

Also, if you want to make a review for Ming start up a new thread :D

Wes was able to do what Slick Tint could not, at half the price.

Take my advice, don't waste your time anywhere else in Winnipeg, go straight to Wes.

Wes tinted my Saturn wagon and the rear window was extremely difficult to do.  It's a weird shape.

Had to bring it in twice but third time was a charm.  Instead of just adjusting it, which he could have, he removed it and started over each time to try to get it right.

Over time I have had minor.things done by him like tail light red out and had my badges wrapped in black and it's always been a positive experience.

He's a man with big dreams and lots of love for his work.  Would always recommend Wes !

Thought I posted my experience already a while ago but guess not lol

It's nice to have my loyal clientele of top tier members bring stuff like this to my attention since I don't get on here enough !

First of all the reason why I didn't do your car is because I literally had a parking lot full of cars ahead of your time slot, not that I " couldn't do it " or didn't know how to remove your brake light if that's what you are referring too... There's 2 clips behind the headliner to drop it down and the brake light has 2 hook clips which slide out then you detach the cable, so it's not my first rodeo removing those things. Unfortunately your vehicle was the one which was going to be the most time consuming so I had to feed you some kind of excuse of why I couldn't do it, which is why I said " bring it back another day"

Now of coarse you had to bring up the price of doing the job so here we go.... when I showed you all of the different films you can choose from that I have to offer you selected the ceramic film which is of coarse more expensive than a regular dyed or lower end carbon hybrid film so before you go comparing me to another shop make sure you get the facts straight. The type of material being installed as well as the quality of the installation plays a huge factor in any shops price. You could have selected the basic film for HALF THE PRICE but you didn't. Simple as that!

I am by far one of the best installers in the whole city which makes me VERY busy and I have the right to kick some jobs to the curb if I feel like they are a waste of my time or just flat out don't feel like doing them. That's the beauty of being your own boss, you have the luxury to pick and choose what you want or don't want to do.

Just for future reference if you are a Top Tier member PLEASE let me know when calling or showing up for your appointments since I offer discounted pricing  for all members and odds are much better that I won't give your car the boot because I don't feel like doing it hahaha sorry about that St3 , my bad.

You don't just "adjust" tint Darcy lol It doesn't work like that. If there is a flaw in the job the film always has to be removed and re installed with a new piece. Tinting windows is not easy to do if customers expect perfection. It took Wes 3 times but at least he got it done to your expectations which is what matters in the end.

So basically instead of just telling the owner how troublesome it would be for you to remove a part you had to come up with an excuse? That really makes me want to bring you business. Same with you just sending jobs away just because you don't want to do them.

I'm guessing if I brought a car to Wes he would more than be happy to install tint on it and if he didn't think he could do it/waste his time doing so he would probably still try his best to get the job done and not make excuses about the job.

Speaking of which would you like to tint my cobalt? Or would the rear window prove to be to difficult/be a huge waste of your time?

When tint is just settling it developed two very very small pinches where the window meets the rubber strip of the window sill at bottom of window.

It could have been adjusted by flattening it out or other methods but he decided to go from scratch, is what I meant.

Your twisting of my words about the 3 times a charm to make him look like he can't do a good job the first time is to be expected.  I'd return to him and recommend him all day, he's a good guy who does good work.

I had a 10:00 am appointment, I left my car with you for two hours, only to find out you couldn't do it, after you told me you could do it.  Then referred me to go to another tint shop in town.

Gave my car the boot because you didn't feel like doing it?  Real professional.  Sorry, but I don't enjoy wasting my weekends.

Your car was sitting in the parking lot for 2 hours untouched, so you're welcome for just telling you to come pick it up instead of letting it sit there all day untouched. If you told me you were a top tier member then maybe I would have considered getting the job done for you, not that I "COULDN'T" do it.

I like to think I have my moments of being professional and sometimes I'm not lol big deal, I still seem to have an endless supply of work so sometimes I have to turn some away. I still get tons of work from top tier member regardless of the fact so I must be doing something right and I'm not even a vendor on here haha

I like to think I have my moments of being professional and sometimes I'm not lol big deal, I still seem to have an endless supply of work so sometimes I have to turn some away. I still get tons of work from top tier member regardless of the fact so I must be doing something right and I'm not even a vendor on here haha

This guy is a complete idiot !  He really thinks he is going to have tons of work a year from now ?
Are you 12 years old ? Your thinking is that of a 12 year old.....
I really can't believe your reply's to this mess, you just keep making it worse.

I say we start a thread warning everyone not to go to this idiot!

Wes must be loving this.

Perhaps a slick tint review thread with all the reason your car may not get tinted by him, as quoted by the owner of the company

So I had a free day. Phoned on Monday and Wes said come on in Thursday. He was running a bit late due to an accident(not his,a traffic accident) but he let me know. Super friendly, both him and Sara, they let me watch, explained the process, explained the care, and when they were done he even gave me some painting tips and ideas about some stuff I might get done. He also hooked me up with his interior guy to fix a tear in the leather arm rest console thing. All at a great price. Would recommend, and am taking in wife's mazda5 next week.

Had Wes out to do a couple cars last night for my brother and cousin, busted them out very quickly, and did another great job!  Thanks again Wes!

So had an issue after the latest cold snap, the tint started to peel on drivers side, went in and Wes and Sarah re-did the whole window, no charge, no problem. Excellent customer service.

If Wes did it give him a call. When they redid it, they popped the door panel to put the tint further down on the glass, below the seal.

If you mean you're worried about the panel breaking, i get it. I went during that warm spell and the drive gave lots of time to warm the interior.

Had a similar prob in the latest cold snap, rolled down my window and heard the tint crinkling on the weather strip, I texted Wes and he had a few time slots to fit me in, brought it down and he fixed it up in no time.
