Engine & Transmission / Intermittent Stalling on warm starts.
« on: May 17, 2017, 04:13 PM »
Hey guys, looking for some advice on an issue that arose on my car. Ill start off by saying its a 95 Celica GTS with a 5sfe. Motor is completely stock aside from a short ram intake, which I've just replaced with the factory air box.

From time to time, when the car is warm, it'll give a tough time starting. Ill start the car up cold and it gives no issues, drive it until its up to temperature, and then turn the car off. I'll let it sit for 10-20 minutes, come back and the car will give difficulty starting.

It'll fire up to about 1000 RPM (regular idle) and then drop right back down to 0. If i give it some throttle I can get it to run if i hold the RPM at idle for 30 seconds or so, and then it runs and drives fine. However if I don't give it throttle it just stalls out again. This problem is also very inconsistent, majority of the time it will start and run fine, but when it does give me problems, its always under these circumstances.

It occurred once this week where i had to give it a significant amount of throttle(1/4 to 1/2) to force it to start, and then held it at idle for 30 seconds or s, and then it idled fine.

I've done some researching on toyota forums, and have a very very rough idea what could be causing this, and I'm hoping someone could provide some insight as to what could cause this. Its a difficult thing to diagnose, as it doesn't happen extremely frequently, but I'm also hesitant to drive it, as I don't want to get stranded somewhere with a vehicle that doesn't start.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Parts for Sale/Wanted/Trade / WTB: 195/70/14 with 5x100 Wheel
« on: November 30, 2016, 09:02 AM »
As the title states, looking for ONE 5x100 wheel (steel wheel preferred but will consider others) with a 195/70/14 tire.

doesn't matter what tire, as long as the size matches and it holds air/is relatively safe to drive.

My winter car will likely be going to the scrapper or sold for parts, so I want to take my new winter tires off it. One of my all season wheel/tire bit the dust, and I'd like to replace it so I can at least move the car around.

Let me know what you've got, will buy a pair if necessary and the price is right

Audio, Video & Electrical / 9006 to H1 Adapter Converter
« on: August 30, 2016, 08:44 AM »
I'm looking to build a harness that allows me to run H1 bulbs, on my car which usually takes a 9006 bulb.

Essentially I need a female 9006 plug to plug into the car, and a female H1 plug that I can plug into the bulb, and wire these two together. Does anyone have suggestions as to where I could find these plugs locally, or a site I can order from that would get here before the weekend?

Or even a pre-built adapter would be awesome too, but not essential.

I've checked Canadian tire as well as princess auto as well. I could go to the wrecker, but would likely have a shopping list of different cars to search through, in order to find the proper 2 connectors.

Audio, Video & Electrical / Re-Pinning Electrical Sockets
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:58 AM »
Is anyone here familiar with re-pinning factory electrical sockets? I received a set of headlights that has a 194 bulb socket to light up the housing, however, the seller decided to chop the wires right at the connector as seen below:

I really just need these wires extended, so I can connect them to the vehicle, so re-pinning seems like the best solution.

If anyone would be able to offer advice/assistance doing this, that would be awesome, as I'm not to familiar with electrical things.

Brakes & Suspension / Where to have wheels bearings pressed in?
« on: June 29, 2016, 12:58 PM »
Doing a bit of due diligence before I go ahead and order parts.

Can anyone recommend a place that will press in wheel bearings for me if I bring my knuckle/hub and new wheel bearing to them?

Preferably closer to the north kildonan area, but obviously not a requirement

Ever since I got my Celica, Keith has been saying we should get together for a shoot. I finally felt my car was at a level to pull off a decent shoot together, and Ken made it happen. @Faken

Exterior & Interior / Plastic Toyota Push Pins.
« on: September 11, 2015, 08:13 AM »
Does anyone know where I could get these from? Or have/know where to get a tool to remove them?
I got a bunch from the toyota dealer when I ordered the hardware to install my skirts (I thought they were screws, it was hard to tell in the diagram), but i need to remove and re-install becuase the 3M tape isn't holding the greatest.

I went to Canadian tire with no success and got some from piston ring but they turned out to be slightly to small.
They need to fill a 3/8" hole.

When pushed in, the four "arms" so to say, expand, holding the plug and side skirt in place.

Brakes & Suspension / Front end pop/clunk
« on: August 06, 2015, 02:05 PM »
For the past week or so i've had a random creak coming from the drivers side front suspension. Usually when turning the wheels, or turning and going up/down a bump such as my driveway. I greased everything up in the front end, and still no solution.

The other day I was driving and had to brake relatively hard, and there was a fairly loud 'pop'. Now, when I brake/take off hard there's a significant pop. I can takeoff from a stop gently, and sometimes there is a softer pop sound, and sometimes there's non at all. It also pops loud if I brake hard, and pops softly if I break gently. Also while stationary, if I turn the wheel to the left, at a specific point it will pop, and you can feel it through the steering wheel as well.

I crawled under the car a couple days ago and tried moving stuff around for about an hour, and could not manage to reproduce the noise. It's also seemed to have gotten worse since then. It seems to be related to moving forward/back, almost as if the LCA bushing is worn out, however, I changed these about 2 summers ago.

I'm curious if anyone has any insight as to what this could possibly be, before I take it in to have it diagnosed. I was leaning towards a ball joint, but the fact that there was no play/leaking in the joint, and i could not reproduce the noise, has me thinking otherwise. I will take a second look as it seems to have gotten worse since it first started.

Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Looking to buy a set of "tuner" lug nuts for aftermarket wheels.
I believe what I need are the 60 degree tapered lug nuts.

Looking for a reputable brand, new or used. Not interested in the Ebay garbage, as I just snapped one and had to drill out the lug and stud, lessons learned. Let me know what you got.

Audio, Video & Electrical / Immobilizer Key Fob Copying
« on: October 07, 2014, 08:23 AM »
Does anyone here have experience with getting copies of an immobilizer made? My winter vehicle has an immobilizer installed, however its only come with one key fob, and it is NOT the red "master' fob.

Being prone to losing things, I'd be pretty screwed if I lost my keys. So does anyone know if its possible to have a copy of an immobilizer fob made? and where this could be done? Or am I pretty much toast and have to have it either removed or replaced with a new immobilizer and fob set?

Off Topic / 2014/2015 NHL Season
« on: September 23, 2014, 08:07 AM »
Hockey Is back! Keep any NHL related talk here (I don't htink there was a thread for this season yet)

Anyone catch the Jets game last night? I managed to snag tickets from work, third row at the top of the circle.
Our young guys look good, was impressed with Ehlers as well as Lowry, however, Perrault didn't seem to do a whole lot.

Powerplay definitely looked stronger than last season, but still not the greatest!

GO JETS GO.

Other for Sale/Wanted/Trade / FS: 2012/2013 Smith I/O Snow Goggles.
« on: September 08, 2014, 05:07 PM »
Looking to sell a pair of Navy Blue Smith Optics I/O goggles from the 2012/2013 Season. I wore these goggles for only 1 season, and they've treated me well. The band shows slight signs of wear from the velcro in m helmet, but this is merely cosmetic. These Goggles will come with the following three lenses:

Ignitor Mirror (Chorme look on the outside, pictured in frames) - "Proprietary universal lens tint designed to reduce eye fatigue while enhancing contrast and depth perception in all conditions. A versatile lens tint designed to be used all season long."

Green Sol X Mirror (blue/green look on the outside) - "Dark sienna brown, Sol-X base lens tint with a multi-layer green mirror cuts glare and reduces eye fatigue in bright, sunny conditions"

Red Sensor Mirror - "Combining our proprietary Red Sensor mirror outer lens with a revolutionary, new visible-light activated photochromic inner lens for all day riding in varying light conditions."

Descriptions taken from Smith Optics Website

Essentially, the Ignitor mirror works in all conditions, whether it be sunny or flat light conditions, it does well in all, and I wore this lens all season in Whistler, so there is some scratches on the outside of the lens, but does not effect the visions from the inside.
Red Sensor Mirror lens is 100% brand new, still in plastic, and is good for flat light conditions.
Green Sol X lens has been worn once, and is good for sunny, blue bird conditions.

Selling these as I've received new gear for the season, and these will not get use. Looking to get $125 for goggles and 2 extra lenses, as the current retail is 175 with one higher end lens (Which all three of the above lenses are) and one basic lens.

Please PM any questions, or interest.
