General Discussion / anyone get a school zone speeding ticket yet?
« on: September 08, 2014, 08:35 AM »
in 4 days (the first week of school) over 250 tickets were handed out

anyone get one?

i dont go by a school to or from work, so i doubt i'll ever get one

anyway, "slow down, you're just going to work" (sign i saw by 'friendly brad')

anyone with a subaru ever have a rough/low idle after a battery has been disconnected or changed out?

i had it once before, and it seemed to fix itself, took a couple days.. now i have it again

just wondering if the following actually works (taken from nasioc)

disconnect the battery.....leave it off for 10 minutes and pump the brake pedal a few times
reconnect the battery...make sure the terminals are CLEAN and tight

get in car

turn the key to the last position before the starter engages and WAIT 10 seconds

turn the key to start the car

leave the car to run until the radiator fans come on.......this may take 20-25 minutes

turn the engine OFF and take the key OUT of the ignition switch and wait at least 10 seconds

put the key back in the ignition and start the car and drive normally for a bit and see what happens

Audio, Video & Electrical / 'big three' upgrade
« on: April 16, 2014, 09:59 AM »
when should one look at doing the big 3 upgrade?

alternator +ve to  battery +ve
battery -ve to the chassis
engine block to the chassis (ground)

is 4ga wire good enough? or just go for the gusto and do 1/0 ?

pretty much only going to be drawing ~500rms, but looking at my forester's dinky little wires, it seems i should increase the fatness

item is sold: please delete

i have a pair of front floor mats ONLY

black in color (just under the dirt.. very easy to wash.. just hose them down)

weathertech model #: 440971

it should fit 2002 thru 2007 subaru impreza sedans, wagons, wrx and sti models

used for ~6 months.. took them out when i sold the car

asking $100, always open to offers

no trades (unless its for $$)

Off Topic / house renovations (pictures?)
« on: April 02, 2014, 07:21 AM »
anyone here into doing home renovations? helping others? etc?

lets see what you've done

here is my livingroom in an album on imgur  (pronounced: image-er)
i would say its a fairly decent change!

i did everything myself, or with help from wife, with the exception of mudding/taping (guy did our livingroom, kitchen ceiling, entire basement, and 2 closets upstairs for $700..  not worth my time and frustration for that price)

Off Topic / who watched wrestling during the attitude era?
« on: March 31, 2014, 07:47 AM »

Audio, Video & Electrical / which 4ch amp to go with??
« on: March 19, 2014, 09:17 AM »
current set up is as follows:

head unit: pioneer avhp8400bh
door speakers: CDT Audio ES-6CFX
sound deadening:  b-quiet ultimate (formerly 'brownbread')
sub amp:  jl slash 250/1 v1
sub:  jl 8w3(downsizing from a 10w3 from old build)

now for my requirements

size:  i want to keep the footprint under 14"x12"
power:  since my speakers claim to handle 130rms, i would like to be around ~100x4
class:  class AB (if price friendly) or full range class D
price: this is the tricky part.. would prefer to be ~$150-200 (max)
brand loyalty: im open to options here, but in the past have used: zapco, USAmps, phoenix gold, mtx, kenwood, and alpine

currently thinking of the follwoing:

soundstream picaso nano 4.520d ~$150

precision power phantom p900.4 ~$180

massive audio nx4 ~$160

im not afraid to go 'previously enjoyed' providing it works 100%, and note that prices listed are based on shipping to pembina

Off Topic / What are the simple pleasures in your life?
« on: December 13, 2013, 02:35 PM »
a while back, i posted a what  "what small things piss you off"

now, how about the opposite? what are the simple pleasures in life?

it could be anything....

getting through a yellow light
1 wipe poops
finding a $5 bill in a coat you havent worn in a while
opening something that is 'vacuum packed' (like coffee)

so ya..  what are some simple pleasures?

Audio, Video & Electrical / best place for remote start
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:09 AM »
where is the best place to go?
places i am considering are:      ground pounders, option plus, krazys car clinic..
any reasons why or why i should not go to the listed ?
any other recommended places?

keep in mind, im 8 minutes north of the city (stony mountain)

all im looking for is 2way, and having my factory locks work

i prefer knowing my car started vs guessing if my car starts from 4000' away

i'll run under the assumption that all places are within a few $$ of each other for the install and any modules needed

vehicle: 09 forester, auto trans, has immobilizer

reason: im on the highway in about 15 seconds, would rather have the vehicle ready to go to those speeds.     inside warmth is just the bonus

Off Topic / gran turismo 6

lookin forward to it, hopefully they made cars sound good this time

and hopefully more muscle

Audio, Video & Electrical / subwoofers in the winter
« on: September 10, 2013, 12:44 PM »
k, winter is coming...  who takes their subwoofer out? or disconnects them either from the amp, or shuts them off with the head unit?

usually i just turned off the pre-out on my head unit, since the box was basically bolted in

will any damage happen during the freeze/thaw?

Engine & Transmission / 09 forester check engine light
« on: August 22, 2013, 07:55 AM »
anyone with a subaru have a check engine light come on just after having it serviced?

i drove home, all good.... a few short trips around town, then this morning, after turning a corner, my check engine light and vehicle dynamics (traction control??) light are solid, and cruise is blinking and non functional...

is this just a misfire or something? condensation on a sensor?  i have cleared a check engine light before on my 04 wrx, and it was always the same code (it escapes me now)...  other searches say this is VERY common..

seems like this light always pops on after a 48k service too

here is exactly what it looks like (not my car):

Off Topic / what small things piss you off?
« on: July 08, 2013, 11:04 AM »
for me, its a bunch of things...
bad drivers, being last in a long line at a fast food place and no one comes in after you, people who come in to work and say "is it home time yet?", the phrases "hot/cold enough for you?", and "are we having fun yet?", stepping in dog crap, having a hang nail..

the list goes on and on...

so ya.. what really gets on your nerves?

i have some left over carpet underpad.. its 10# as opposed to the regular 8#...

would this be a suitable material to put on the door panel itself to help eliminate road noise and maybe help with any interior sound loss.....

i will be using a dynamat competitor for the door itself..

is there any sense in me putting it on the actual plastic of the inside of the door?? if anything, would it maybe help with vibration?

im sure it HAS to be better than whatever is in there now

Audio, Video & Electrical / my new radio
« on: May 09, 2013, 09:32 PM »
as everyone knows, subarus do not come with much of a sound system...
i got an excellent deal on a pioneer avhp8400...
here is the installation...
tools used were: phillips screwdriver, and a putty knife.. and a coat hanger to fish wires
it took roughly 90 minutes from start to finish.. (includes connecting the harness wires with a pac-tr7, testing, and a clean up of all the stuff)
not my first rodeo, but the first time i ever did a 2din install, as well as something with video..
next up will be sound deadening the doors/hatch, and new speakers..

id like $250..     hence why im trying to keep this off kijiji, as someone is only going to offer $50, as long as it includes the jl 10w3

i used this box in my 04 wrx before selling it. used roughly 1 year and a bit, sub usually 'off' in winter

fiberglass sub box fits 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 subaru impreza wrx and sti SEDANs..

100 % fiberglass It is sprayed with industrial strength fiberglass.
The enclosure is approximately .90 Cu ft. Fits perfect as seen in picture.
It is designed for a 10" Subwoofer

bolts in to factory holes, cannot be moved once installed with a few bolts

this is for just the box only
