Wheels & Tires / Legit vs Knockoff
« on: June 16, 2017, 02:51 PM »
Aaaaalright!

Since I'm in the market for some new (or used) set of wheels, and I'm so noob at this. I guess it will not hurt to ask the masters here in forum. =)

1. How to tell if it's an original set or a replica?
2. Can someone please give me a top legit AND replica brands that has an acceptable quality? Realistically speaking, maybe I would go to either cheapest original set, a higher end replica or a used set.

Reason for asking is, whenever I browse the internet for wheels... I could not even tell which one is which, or what brand is considered decent.. and what are the ones I should stay away from.

No specific style at the moment, and as for the price... If financing is available at 0% interest brand new, then may the best offer win.

I only know the famous ones, like BBS Enkei Konig etc. Talked to UWW (asking for quotes), and they told me to check Fastco.ca for wheel options.

BTW.. yes I searched. I only saw the thread for XXRs.  :)

Unofficial Meets / Cruise to 2017 Driven?
« on: June 12, 2017, 02:31 PM »
Okay, just wanna test the water and see if we can make this happen.

Anyone want to have a mini-meet and cruise to Driven 2017? Let's show our support to our brothers and sisters competing inside the event!

@John and @Impact , maybe a good time to have a mitsubie cruise?  Of course, same TTI rules applies.

All makes and models are welcome!

Watcha guys think?

PS.
Just not sure if we're going to have parking spot issues once we get there. lol

Journals / Jonathan's 5th Gen (2015+) WRX
« on: June 04, 2017, 11:24 PM »
Oh boy here we go.

First off, let me just give everyone a heads up by saying that this will be a combination of both Journal and Newbie thread. My name is Jon, but since TTI has many Jon (or John)... I guess you can all call me Jonathan. Just to get things straight, just like everybody else in this forum, I love cars, the only difference is... I'm probably the noobest car guy in the group.
So noob, I don't even know if I can call myself a "car guy". Why bother telling? So you guys can go a little bit easy on me when discussing stuff. I don't like acting like Mr.-Know-it-all, and you dicussing technical issues would probably sound like an average person listening to medical jargons.
I'm here to learn, I'm here to make friends and I'm here to help... although... to tell you the obvious truth... this forum has become nothing but help, and for that I'm thankful.

Okay, enough intro and let's move on to what you came here for... my "build". I drive a base '16 WRX, and loving every minute of it. Since it's a brand new car, I can't afford to lose its warranty... so the plan for now is to make my build as warranty safe as possible.

Warranty will be over in a couple of years, and when that time comes.. I'll update this journal. For now, here are the parts I have with my rex.

1.Wheels - Ahhh yes, the best mod in my opinion. I'm rolling with 18x8.5 +35 offset wrapped with Nankang rubbers for Summer and For Winter, 2012 STI's OEM (Enkei) wheels wrapped with Blizzak winter tires. Secured with Muteki's SR48

2.Exhaust - Nameless 3" axle back (muffler deletes) with neochrome tips. One acceptably loud exhaust, no gains in numbers... but there might be a few in your angry neighbor list.

3. Nameless License plate delete - Wear it loud! Wear it proud!

4.Rally Armor Mudflaps - I remember picking between this or the rokblokz ones. Went for RA because it's more flexible.

5.Husky Floorliners - Since my car is daily driven all year round, I have to make an extra effort to protect it. Had to choose between Weather tech and Husky, I went for Husky... because I'm cheap.. and it was on sale. lol

6.Trunk Spoiler - had to think carefully with this one since it requires drilling a hole on your trunk... and holes can rust... and I will lose my paint warranty on my trunk... but who cares, I want a wing! Got my flush wing from a company called DAR via CARid.com. Not too small, not too big, just right. I don't want an STI wing, I don't want my car to become something that is not.

7.Lip kit - I never expected a part out to a vehicle this new! 'twas a normal day... not even looking to buy any parts (because I just spent a few hundreds on the wing), until @Igor sent me a message offering a HTAutos V2 lip kit from a friend. Who can say no to that?!
8.Short Throw Shifter - Speaking of part out, I guess I'm just lucky. Got another another one from a guy from Brandon, a Boomba STS!  He said he got the car already with it, and he's not an STS guy. I happily accepted the offer. Short throw feels good man, I have compared it with the STI one and it was night and day. The installation was way too much for me so I had Speed Factor do it for $$$.

9.Shift knob - This. I really wanted the one from Raceseng... but it's $250. I can't do it... hahahaha I purchased a $20 knob from ebay, I'll let you know once it arrives.

10. Personal parts like decal, wraps and bulbs - I will respect what ever floats your boat. =)

Note to self:
Have patience. Warranty is almost over. You can go Stage 1+ as soon it's done.

Whew, glad that's over! If you  or someone you know is thinking of getting the parts I have. Feel free to ask! Send me a message or approach me during meets! I don't want you to spend your money to something you might not want, so I will let you  feel my lever... no wait, that sounds wrong. *clears throat*.. touch my knob, I mean my parts!... no... I mean... man this is awkward.

You get the point! <:

Wheels & Tires / Low-Cost Winter Tires Worth it?
« on: September 08, 2016, 02:01 AM »
Hello,

Thinking of getting a set of GT Radial Champiro WinterPro HP before snow hits. I will be replacing Blizzaks, I'm just not sure if it's worth it.

Price difference is at $100 per tire.

thoughts?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Adhesives
« on: August 04, 2016, 02:01 AM »
Okay... can't find anything under search, so I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask.

Can anyone tell me how reliable external car adhesives are? Like 3m double sided tapes you use for no drill spoilers?

Just wondering how long (and strong) it will hold, especially with our extreme weather.

I wanted to make sure that it will not fly off my trunk while moving, or fall if it gets covered with snow.

is it something you have to peel and replace every x amount of time?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Help need, BADLY
« on: June 10, 2016, 05:34 PM »
Hey guys, one misfortune after another. just 2 days ago... my winter set got stolen. Now, I backed into someone else's car... dammit.

The owner is cool if I just give him 200 for the damage. Not sure if its a good idea.

Does anyone know the best route when dealing with this kind of situation?

I mean, can I just bring his car to a paint shop and have it fixed without getting deductables and demerits?

Please advice.

I'll post a photo of the cars.

Thanks

Got my winter tires set stolen from my aunt's garage.  Almost impossible to track, because rims does not have a serial number to match the body. Just giving you guys a heads up, it happened around Garden Grove area near Route 90.

Breaks my heart, its still pretty new... got it just last November.  :(

General Discussion / TOP 5: First Mods you should do to your car
« on: March 30, 2016, 01:43 PM »
Helllooooo!

I wanna know what's your opinion on this! What's your top 5 first mods coming from a stock car? or (if not applicable) What are the first 5 mods you actually did when you got your car?

So it doesn't matter if car is used, or brand new. Aesthetic or Power mod.

Here's an example format you can follow:

Car model and year- Subaru BRZ 2014
1st:Mudflaps
2nd:Floorliners
3rd:Catback
4th:CAI
5th:Bigger Rims

Go!

General Discussion / Need some advise
« on: March 09, 2016, 02:04 AM »
What's up Top Tier?! Spring is just around the corner! need to start buying some parts for this year's mod line up.  :)

Need your opinion on two things:

Nameless Axleback + muffler delete ( 2.5" pipe and 3" tip) -
Is it gonna be too loud? Will I have problem with cops? Not planning on doing a full catback, too pricey for me. Please stop me if you know I'm gonna have legal issues. lol

Wing? or Wingless? -

I have a 2016 base wrx, and I'm planning on installing one of APR's wing, but my concern is if it's a smart move to have a "universal" spoiler drilled to your car's trunk. Will it vibrate or something?
I liked one spoiler from subispeed, but you can't drill it... and I don't trust 3Ms.

Thanks and have a good one!

PS

Got these awesome wheels (+tires) from an '12 STI owner, will plasti dip it and use as a summer set. I also replaced the  halogen "c-light" bulb with LED, best $10 ever. lol It's still cold, but I have to do something!

General Discussion / local one stop car shop
« on: November 14, 2015, 10:33 PM »
Hi y'all!,

Just wondering if there's a local shop here in Winnipeg where I can buy wide range of car parts and accessories?

Not sure if online shops like Subispeed.com is my only option. I drive a '16 WRX.

I'm currently looking for the ff:
-Mud flaps / splash guards
-LED bulb for the boomerang shaped DRL
-Side window deflectors
-Shift Knob

Looking for a shop I can personally visit every once in a while, whenever I'm planning on doing some aesthetic mods.

PS, yes... I've seen Canadian Tire.

Thanks and drive safe! =)

General Discussion / Warranty Friendly Mods?
« on: November 13, 2015, 02:08 AM »
What's up Top Tier folks?! This is my first official topic (except the newbie introduction) here!

I'm a proud owner of Blink (name of my 16 base WRX), and I'm having this very familiar itch. I want to do some mods, but I wanted to inquire first, from the people who have first hand experience with the dealer's warranty policy. Got my ride from Subaru Regent (If that would help),  and here are the first wave of mods I have in mind.

1.BOV
2.LED DRL (coz base has the yellow one)
3.HID kit
4.Short Throw Shifter

Also, I wanted to have a remote start installed on my ride... but the one at the dealership is pricey compare to what I can get from Visions or Bestbuy. Would they void my warranty if ever an electrical issue occurs? will they just blame the Remote Starter? Or can I just buy a remote starter kit and bring it to the dealership for proper installation?

I just got it last week, so I will still have time to do some research while breaking it in. =)

Please advise.

Thanks!
