Have you checked with APEGM that the courses at U Minnesota are recognized by them?

I did one year at U of M originally wanting to go into engineering. Then ended up going to Red River for 2 years for the Power Engineering program. Very good decision on my part. Although I've heard the program has kind of fallen apart since the lab (which is critical to the learning process) hasn't been running for 2 years.
Anyone want info on that program feel free to ask.

I'm in the Collision Repair and Refinishing program at RRC. On track to getting my first level for apprenticeship.

If you're interested in getting into any of the transportation trades I'd highly recommended taking a pre-employment program. Gives you plenty knowledge and confidence plus employers see it as a huge asset.

Anyone here in the I.T career? If so what courses did you take? Right now I'm taking Cisco courses next fall and hopefully will be able to graduate with all 8 computer courses my high school provides. Then after I plan to either go to U of M or Red River. Any advice?

Not sure if it's the same for IT but RRC seems like it's the "fast track" for most careers. Generally most classes are directly related to your field.

I'm going back to U of M for CompSci but it seems like I'll have to move to Vancouver, Toronto, or the states to find a proper job in that field. Is there anything here in that field?

I graduated from this program in 2011 and would recommend it to anyone. I took it just to get a general background in business as I had another program to take after it that was more specific to the career I have now. What I liked most about the program is how hands on it is, you spend most of your time learning by doing.

In my second year I majored in admin, which gave me the freedom to choose most of my courses, rather than being forced to take all marketing courses or all accounting courses. I know plenty of people who majored in accounting and in marketing and both sides were happy with how the program prepared them for the next step in their lives.

The Entrepreneurial Program is probably one of the best educational tools out there. For those that are not familiar, one of your classes second year is a full year course, and the entire class is starting a business from the ground up. You are assigned to a group of 16-18 people, you start off with a feasibility study and by the end of the year you create a booth for your business at the trade show and present your business plan to a panel of judges.

The course is great if you want to get a feel for all aspects of business without being in school for 4-5 years. It can also be used as a good stepping stone especially with their integrated options that allow you to go on to uofm and uofw if you wish to further your education and attain a degree. It can also be a good starting point if you are interested in becoming a CA, CGA or CMA.

If you're interested in getting into any of the transportation trades I'd highly recommended taking a pre-employment program. Gives you plenty knowledge and confidence plus employers see it as a huge asset.

Hey! Just have to revive this old thread, what can you say about the Automotive Trades & Technology course that's being offered by 7oaks school division? (More info here:https://www.7oaks.org/Programs/CooperativeVocationalEducation/Pages/Automotive.aspx) or do I have to go for a well known school like RRC?. Thinking of enrolling this school year while having a full time job. Just wanna go back to school.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a university offshore...but this time... I wanna do what actually wanted. How's the employability?

                                          Thanks!

I'm willing to be the money would be at least 1/3 of what an RN makes. Not saying you shouldn't do it but think about your finances first.

Words right of my mouth. Careful with making a hobby your job!

I'm in Respiratory Therapy right now which is quite similar in terms of work hours etc. RN's have the ability to make quite a bit of dough and have extremely good work hours / holiday time (at least here in Canada). I'm not 100% sure on how you'd go about re-certification, I imagine its something along the lines of having to re-write the registry but it would definitely be something to look into! That's also on the assumption that your RN certification isn't directly transferable to Canada!

GF is a nurse, can confirm they make good money. Mechanics wage is probably half that of an RN, but nurses get tons of OT. My GF is a .7, but picks up so much shifts that she works way more than 40hrs a week, hell, in some weekends she works more than 40hrs.

I'd assume you could contact The College of Registered Nurses, and/or the nurses union to ask them about recertification.

Also, gonna agree on the making a job out of a hobbie. That's why I didn't do anything with computers.

Thanks for the tip guys. I did a bit of research and also went to RRC to see what's the best route for me. The thing is, I did not get the chance to actually use my license... I graduated, took the board exam, passed, saved money then moved to Canada. With that said, RRC wants me to study again. So I thought this could be a good idea to try something new. Haha
