I've never autocrossed before. I'm in for the $5 challenge.

There's nothing like a little money to motivate you to push your skills further.
Corey's tip: NEVER try to drive faster. That leads to more mistakes on turn entry, which then results in you driving wide around the turns and going further than everyone else, and then you can't get on the throttle early as you're still trying to get the car turned to avoid the cones on the exit of the corner.
Instead: Get on the throttle as early as you can while still having a clean exit from a corner (or a complex of corners), be 1" off the key cones, drive more precisely, attack the back of slalom cones, and brake decisively. Once you get above mid-pack the driving part is automatic, it's the mental approach that separates 20th place from 5th place.
I'm really looking forward to the Level 2 school on Saturday! This is a fun school where we pretty much focus on all of the above stuff. (You need to have done Level 1 first before entering Level 2)
