on people racing and driving like idiots. No issue here unless you ruin it yourself. Cracking down on idiots will make cruise night better.

It'll be nice to get those trucks that do this in trouble and hopefully they will tone it down.

Interesting. Last time they did this, they indiscriminately targeted anything modified, regardless of driving behaviour.
I was out last Sunday and saw a minority of people driving even remotely aggressively. Harley riders were more of a nuisance on any given weekday.

I'm all for it if they're targeting moving violations. But **** 'em if they're going to be assholes on every equipment violation, on what for a lot of people is the one day a week they drive their car around for more than a short jaunt. There has to be give and take.

Can we make citizen's violations for all the broken stuff I see on the police fleet's vehicles? That should be fair game, ticket the officer driving as he should have inspected the unit before leaving the shop....

                  This is pretty accurate.

I have been pulled over many times and it has never been for a driving violation but always for vehicle modifications.

"They recognize that most of the people taking part in cruise nights are responsible drivers, but they will be cracking down on those not acting responsibly"

Like sequence said, if you drive responsible and cruise like a normal person you will be fine. That is if the police keep their word, which personally i believe they would. It seems they are just trying to make cruise night more enjoyable and safe.

Based off events ive heard about tonight, it seems they are targeting modified cars, but for logical reasons.

So far ive heard of two things they are looking for:
1 - Exhaust - Must be baffled. (i assume there is more to it.)
2 - Suspension - Height specifically - Wheels cant rub on the fenders(from lock to lock) or in general i guess.

And then i would also assume standard things like tint and so on.

This is all i know of so far to my understanding. They are okay with modified cars, as long as those mods are safe, ie rubbing tires is not safe.

They are live tweeting about some of their infractions being handed out and reasoning why.

That seems reasonable. They said they like modified cars just safely done. I can respect that. But if they're pulling me over and like OMG you have a turbo in n/a car y u have turbo no no . Obviously jokes , I know cops don't talk like that.

Yea exactly, its reasonable. AND if you dont want to run in to issues like being pulled over, dont go out on a sunday night. Cops/News warned everyone that police will be cracking down on people.

Doesnt mean you still wouldnt get pulled over any other day, but have a better chance on cruise night. That also being said if you drive an unsafe vehicle, you should probably fix it, otherwise you are pretty much giving VIU a perfect reason to pull you over and get yourself into an even bigger headache.

If they keep it reasonable I'm all for it, cause I know some vehicles are unsafe and some people drive extremely dangerous. But as you said, don't go out Sunday's. Or go somewhere and hangout and chill. And Sunday night is definitely not the night to open it up. Not that I condone of that stuff, but if you want to , Sunday nights you're at an extreme high risk.

But they should promote Sunday cruise, I read somewhere before that Winnipeg has the largest car community so they should want nice cars out driving safe and have it safe for people to watch. I was watching on portage once and seen a car break loose so bad I thought he was going to flip, and I was like wow if he would of darted to the side walk I would be gone.
And it's called Sunday CRUISE. Go show off your fast car, but drive slow and let people check it out. You don't need to drive like portage is a drag strip.

They are live tweeting about some of their infractions being handed out and reasoning why.

how exactly do they check if an exhaust is baffled?

Im not 100% sure, i saw a picture on twitter of them checking a bike with a baton(stick baton in exhaust pipe and check if the baton goes through or if there is something there),  i assume they are just checking for baffling in the muffler. (this is just my guess, i could very well and am most likely wrong)

from my understanding they do a baton test. If it can freely pass down the exhaust pipe at the exit of the car then in their eyes there is no baffle. The exception being mufflers that are deeper in the vehicle body.

I call bull**** on this test though. Mufflers with straight through designs have baffles in the chamber walls. Due to the pulsing of the of the engine, the exhaust gases get circulated in the piping and get muffled even though there is no physical walls.

But try telling a cop that. Since excessive noise is relative to the cop and not an actual decibel level, they can pull over any exhaust modified vehicle and ticket them for either baffles or excessive noise. Pretty stupid IMO
