Or is the grounds for ticketing based on the same criteria as safety inspections?

I'd like to give myself knowledge, just in case I'm selected for a "routine vehicle inspection". Not looking to be rude to the officer that may pull me over, but more for my own protection and to be able to argue any illegitimate claims against my car.

Also find it comical that the people posting complaining about the cops are ones who haven't been ticketed. If you have illegal things on your vehicle, be prepared that at any time you can be ticketed, regardless if you think it's unsafe or not.

        ^  This.

Almost any mod you make to your car can be viewed as illegal... read the HTA it's super vague.  Most suspension mods are illegal if the specs are outside the manufacturer's specs... so guess what, drive like a hooligan on nights when police presence is heighten and you risk getting ticketed.

Gotta live with the consequences of the mods you made.  I know that if I get pulled over on my motorcycle none of my ecode led turn signals are deemed "legal" but I'll take that chance.  In 3 years I've not been pulled over, mostly cuz I don't go out on sunday nights down portage ave, or main.  On top of this my exhaust is definitely not legal either (although it's a plan to fix that this year)  again, I've never had an issue on the bike just by driving responsibly.

Like it or not this is a knee jerk reaction to complaints, that also happens to generate revenue.   Murder investigations don't pay the bills.

Cruised all evening and didn't have an issue. Cruised beside the VIU truck for a couple blocks down Portage don't think they even paid attention to me.

I heard they were looking for obvious camber, scraping and wreckless driving.

Seems like it's pretty easy to avoid the radar.

Same here. I can't speak for everyone, but almost all of my experiences on cruise night have been exceptional when driving responsibly.

As if they are still going after straight through mufflers.  This isn't 1940.  The hta and viu need to get with the times and have a certain decibel level be the legal limit.  You shouldn't be ticketed for a certain way your muffler is built.  That is an ancient and laughable way of thinking, but the viu love it because it is probably the easiest thing to ticket for/generate revenue with.

The only modified cars i could really see them pulling over that are driving normally are the (multi colored panels from donor cars) rice rockets that have a "safety" and are generally unsafe for road use and are loud and obnoxious, usually trying to race everybody and their grandma. They deserve to get pulled over.

Similar things have been happening in other provinces. If the police can do it in Vancouver, where there are a lot more younger/import car guys with a lot more money, chances are there is no way to stop it from happening here. As long as the the general public doesn't mind it the police will continue to target us. Give it 30 years and things will change. I've met a couple VIU inspectors and they're all pretty nice guys just 1) don't drive dumb 2) if you do get pulled over don't use your sassy eff tha police attitude.

Sounds like a whole lot of common sense that isnt that common anymore.

                                    That's what I was thinking .
I read it and was like ... That's pretty straight forward? What's everyone complaining about?

I went out tonight for cruise night and I only saw one police car and I didn't even see a VIU truck.  Was at NMT, Flea Whisky's, and Grant Pony Corral.  Was pretty surprised.

So the police never wondered why there is so many people down Portage on Sunday on there trucks or lawn chairs looking at cars passing by (mainly muscle cars), until now?
