I have a 2010 Mazdaspeed3(newish to me) and have noticed that the interior of the headlight casing, above the HID seems to be hazy, I had one person tell me this was a factory defect caused by the bulb being too hot. He said it should be covered under a Mazda warranty beyond the normal time frame. Can anyone confirm or deny this? and if so how/where should I take it in to? I have had decent service at Crown in the past, just havent taken this in yet.
Thanks.

Have you considered calling the dealership about warranty issues?

That's a warranty issue. Had mine replaced on my 2010 gt with oem hids. One headlight is like 500$ each I think so definitely go to the dealership and get it warantied

Service departments love being told what to do by customers who read about their issue on a forum.

You dont happen to remember if it was a service bulletin or recall type notice? Obviously I'm not the original owner so if there was I wouldnt have gotten it, I've had the car since january 2014.   Thanks.

I have no clue, I brought the car for an oil change and inspection and I told them about the headlight situation and said its covered under warranty

I can confirm that 2010 speed3 techs have a recall on their headlight lenses (bulletin# 12-01), Also on the timing chain (bulletin# 14-03) Depending on the vehicle production date. I would suggest servicing your vehicle at crown.

                      Edit: Found my paperwork

Do you know if they just replaced the outter lens shell, or were they replaced in full?  I had talked to a parts tech there and he said they only replace the lens on these units due to the cost. (they cut the old one off, and remove the shards of plastic, and put in a new lens.  baking them in house would be so much easier lol)

I highly doubt that they just replace the lens and if they do cut the lens like you described they should call me asap for these jobs lol

Saw one in person last weekend.  Personally i think they should be replacing them entirely and putting LED bulbs into the DRL setup (which is what causes these lens to go bad in the first place.)

There's a fellow that works at Crown Mazda on here, not sure if he can chime in (he drives a grey RX8)

And honestly, they would make a cleaner setup and much more efficient job by baking them.   Only takes 15 minutes per lens in the oven, and way less mess!

Well, whatever they did, they didnt do well, or the new unit (passenger side) is defective, not only is the entire inside wet, as i left my mom's last night she pointed out that none of the light except the turn/park light work. Making another appointment with Crown.

Well it turns out they cut the plastic lens off and reseal. A little ticked to find that out, I would rather have given them to WinnipegHID to bake them open and clean, or for that matter even attempt a bake myself. Now I'll see how long these hold out. If they still leak I'll be pisssed and trying to get Mazda Canada to replace them.

Please mention that Winnipeg HID can take care of jobs like these. That's just ridiculous and totally unnecessary. I can give warranty against the moisture coming back.

That is what they used to do.  Mazda ordered a seperate set of replacement lens' to just replace the damaged fronts.   Realistically there is nothing wrong with the covers either.  its damage to the rear of the unit where the DRL bulb is.
