Can you just pay it before the court date?

Do you also get a reminder before your court date? Or is it up to you to remember, almost two years later?
It almost seems worth it to chose to fight your ticket, even if you're guilty, and then just pay it say a week or two before your court date. But I'm the type of person that would probably forget to pay/show up for court.

There's got to be a way to reschedule your court date.  If the crown can do it, so can you.

I've only had a few tickets but my last one I fought was scheduled to be this past August 25.
I completely forgot about it. Usually they send you a letter in the mail if you no-show just saying you have to pay it.
It's September 23 and I haven't gotten anything from them. You think I should be worried or do you think their system is behind?
It was for a photo radar ticket for 62 in a 50.

I don't think it just went away without you being informed.  You should probably follow up on it.

My dad fought a ticket that he got last winter, he sent a letter saying something about his right to a speedy trial and some other shiz. He managed to just have to pay like $100 or something and he didn't get any demerits.

                            So yea, try his approach.

I don't agree with always fighting tickets, if you got caught doing something you weren't supposed to you should just pay it and move on with your day. I can't believe how far down the road these court dates are.

My understanding is you have to attend court to contest a ticket in the same jurisdiction as the ticket was issued.  Example, if you get a ticket in Brandon, you can't get a court date in Winnipeg to fight it.

Someone in my office said they got a cellphone ticket for just touching their phone, as vocally told by the judge "even touching it is against the law". I was under the impression that the law was "use":

Right, but just because they give you a ticket, doesn't meant the ticket is for a valid reason. I was wondering if someone had advice from a lawyer or who had also been to a case like that.

The burden is on them to prove you're guilty. If my phone was in my front jacket pocket and i was removing it to give it to my passenger to answer, I have to touch it but wasn't using it.

It's really a technicality imo  the phone still distracted you in their eyes
I heard they can even give you a distracted driving ticket for drinking or having a smoke already. or maybe that was going to happen in the future im not sure
