Things here in the dip shop are booming.  I've hired this cat to learn the art of hydro-dipping.  As you can see mr. peter nyguard is happy to see that Thomas here successfully pulled off some carbon fiber dippage.  It was a special moment as you can tell...

Here's what the dipping process actually looks like. Had lots of people asking how it works.  It's not just a 5 minute process.  But the actual dipping part is that cool moment when your old becomes new and it looks super cool.  :)
And the super cheesy inspirational music on the radio accidentially timed itself to start at a perfect moment.

                    some of the latest

this is the new paint shaker. (check the Eppic Industries FB page for a video of it in action)

rims are done, next are the mirrors, handles, and key pieces of the front bumper to tie it all together.

just finished a set of wheels on a new slingshot.  Here's how that went down.

                          dismount tires

put them in the super duper powder coat stripper that burns your skin off in seconds

you then have brand new wheels

on goes the first color of paint

then mask it accordingly to prep for the other color

                          paint the whole wheel

and then you dip them and come up with this!

very interesting. How durable would hyrdo-dipped wheels be? Would they stand up to gravel well?

Everything is finished with automotive clear coat.  You can powder coat clear on top if you need the extra durability.  I can't offer that right now as my powder coating oven isn't big enough for rims.  I can fit 15's in there right now but that's it so i just don't offer powder on wheels right now.  Once there's more shop space around here, i'll build myself a nice big walk in oven.  But for the most part, members of TTI don't do a lot of gravel driving with their fancy rims I imagine.

Would these be a cheaper and/or more durable option that Powder coating? Say you wanted a set of wheels one solid color, or is that even possible?

I do powder coating too. (small stuff. valve covers and little bits and bobs.  One day I hope to have a bigger oven)
Powder Coat is the most durable finish you can apply to wheels.  Depending on the place you go and the quality of the work they provide, it can be cheaper the hydrodipping.  All depends what you want.  And like anything else... You get what you pay for.  I've seen wheels powdered for $300 and it looked like that guy paid someone to spray paint his wheels.  Sure the powder was there and solid but the finish was terrible.
The hydrographics process is another way to get yourself something totally unique and different then everyone else.
