So one day last year, Dave came over and I was watching a damn fine video on a Cafe Racer bike, something I've never really heard of before at the time.

And I was like "Dayum, why don't I have one of these things?" Dave replied "Well, go buy one." (direct excerpt from the conversation)

Ya.. right.

..
...
....
.....

Fall, 2011. Purchased this junker for $200. (PS, how badly do you want one after that video? Seriously.)

I was told it was running at one point, but it was a few years ago. I have no idea how long it's been sitting out in the sun, but whatever the case, that's not so cool.

We attempted a few things before the winter was in full effect. We could not for the life of us get spark, so we let it sit for the winter.

Many moons pass, and here we are at summer 2012. After lots of tinkering, and molesting the already molested wire harness, we narrowed it down to potentially bad coils. Luckily, aenimal (Nish) on here is a big CB guy and naturally had many parts laying about, including coils. He also gave me a complete points ignition plate from a previously running bike. Thanks a lot, bruv!

I installed the new coils, but alas, no dice.

What could it be?

After tapping the screwdriver around the points plate, Dave accidentally caused a spark to come out. **** yes, the points plate must have been grounded. We replaced the old points with the new one and determined 1 wire from the kill switch was not receiving power. The temporary solution? Jump the wire directly from the battery.

So, we now have spark. What's next? Fuel. The tank I currently have is a bit rusty inside, so I'll have to plug it up and let some vinegar soak in it for a few weeks. This will clean the surface rust that has formed over the years.

In the mean time, we poured gas directly in to the fuel line and discovered we have some real leaky carbs. Whatever, we just wanted to get this thing to run. The result?

Oh lawdy, it was able to run on its own for a brief period of time. This is a huge relief.

Up next, I'll need to pull the carbs (x4) and most likely replace all the gaskets at the very least.

That's it for now.

Haha, pardon my fowl mouth in the video. I was ecstatic hearing that old girl finally try to run. Does it ever sound cool too.

You can tell that Honda still has great compression, it wanted to start up almost immediately. I probably don't recommend sparking the starter solenoid with as many gas fumes as we had in there, lol. I am concerned about the carbs, as I think some of the bolts holding the float bowls on are possibly broken. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Looking forward to the rest Marc.

That Solus vid gets better every time I watch it. I remember watching lots of videos that night.

Nicely done. I love the fat front tire and the way the fender hugs it so closely.

I'll have to live vicariously through your build.

                              Thanks m8s.

Don't plan to do a whole lot for the remainder of this year, just cleaning the tank & carbs like I mentioned before.

I'll be ordering up a crap load of parts over this winter though :)

Sadly Marc left TTi, but he still has the Ruckus and Subaru.

I bought the 550 and will be continuing on with the project.
