I think this section would also be good for those RHD owners who have fully made their cars DOT compliant to help the others who are still working on it and don't know where to start, or to those who just bought a RHD and didn't do any research.
You may say "DOTing" your car is pointless, it WILL save you a lot of time in the long run. It will atleast be that many less things they can pin you for.

And its a nice "one up and in your face" when some cop decides to be a dick once he realizes your RHD and think he knows what hes doing.

Matter of opinion. I'd personally do it right away.
But like I said, each RHD owner with the experience of having properly DOT'd their vehicle should each make a thread. Anthony can do one for the evo, and Dezner can do one for his model evo. Other RHD'ers who join, if it's a car that already does not exist within the forums, can make one for their vehicles aswell.

Each car should have its own specific thread, where questions related to that vehicle can be asked and answered.

This is what I did, and it sucks...depending on how much time they give you to boot.  At the very least collect everything right now and have it ready to go in.

In order to get my Surf to pass safety, I bought new LHD headlights, wired in DRL's, and swapped to the 4runner corner lenses.  To protect myself from unnecesary hardship I am in the process of swapping to 4runner seatbelts with the proper tags on them, and when I need to do brake work I plan on installing new brake hoses with DOT markings on them.

The headlights and DRL's make sense, the rest is garbage IMO.

JDM tails are only illegal because Canada's DOT is too effing lazy to compare notes with Japan's regulating body. And too stubborn to accept that they are obviously going to be equivalent standards, or better.

Be careful having baby girl in the car then.
If you're in an accident without DOT belts, you're not covered by insurance. Just like if you're using a carseat that's already been in an accident, or a car seat that isn't CSA.

That's pretty sketchy, and definately did not know that.
I wonder how in depth MPI would investigate the belts in your car, and how much crap you could get in if they found out you have non DOT, or DOT stitched on to your JDM belts.

Would really suck to not get covered for auto loss, or even worse injury for something as dumb as that.

                                              Seat belts aren't dot guys

They are marked CMVSS (canadian motor vehicle safety standards)
or MVSS (motor vehicle safety standards)

JIS is only the stamp for lighting, BC and Alberta both accept all lighting except for head lamps, as the Daniel Stern Report has proven the JIS lighting is = to or greater than DOT lighting.

Head lamps from Japan will never be acceptable as they are all cut to refract light slightly to the left (as that's where the ditch is in Japan) Even if they have projectors, JDM projectors flick light up into on coming north american traffic.

As long as the seatbelts have the CMVSS or MVSS tags on them, you'll be good. Well aslong as the belts themselves are frayed or tattered to **** obviously.

Its just the sad fact that Manitoba sucks for modified cars now and anything from JDM land sadly... Is what it is, and we basically have to do out best to try and stay within the rules they set out so we dotn get hassled. If your stuff not DOT or legal, simple fact is, change it. Less hassle and headache down the road.
I have a Fairlady Z32, and im gonna be switching a mjority of stuff over to USDM 300zx equipment so when I get pulled over and they inspect... They've just wasted their time on a compliant vehicle. And then for the future aswell.
