Has anyone else around here had a problem with their fuel door not wanting to open?  My lever does nothing but I can pry it open if I pull the lever and simultaneously stick a credit card in the door.

I've read about fixes on nasioc etc. of people who make springs and wrap them around the hinges.  Has anyone tried such a fix?

I'm still on full warranty so if anyone has experience trying to get Frontier to address it I'd love to hear!  They'll be taking a look at it for me next week but I'd like to know what to expect.

I stick my phone under the gas lever then use a credit card to open it when I'm alone getting gas. Works like a charm.

Here just copied the post over from the subie forum and ya prob should just post this over in the diy area

Ever since I bought my 2010 STi I have had trouble with the fuel door not opening correctly.  NRG said he had the same problem ever since the car was new and had even taken the car into Frontier a couple of times for them to try and fix it.

This is what would greet me after popping the gas door (IF I was lucky, a lot of the time it was not even open that much).

NRG said he used to carry a small peice of plastic to wedge in there to open the door.  I was worried that I would be stranded without gas one day and I came across this thread last week and got around to trying it out today.

Basically you open the fuel door and remove the little silver tab:

As you can see, it is about a 90 degree angle.  This acts like a spring and pushes the door open when the cable is released so I bent it a little; perhaps 15 degrees:

The door pops open like this every time now:

I could bend it more and have the door fire open but this is good for me.

Wow that tab bending fix is amazing! My fuel door now whips open like it's trying to spank a backside lol

Not even an honorable mention for my content? lol

I might try bending the tab more after my initial picture up above.  The door opens but I wonder how far it will open in the winter.
