Ever since I bought my 2010 STi I have had trouble with the fuel door not opening correctly. NRG said he had the same problem ever since the car was new and had even taken the car into Frontier a couple of times for them to try and fix it.
This is what would greet me after popping the gas door (IF I was lucky, a lot of the time it was not even open that much).
NRG said he used to carry a small peice of plastic to wedge in there to open the door. I was worried that I would be stranded without gas one day and I came across this
thread last week and got around to trying it out today.
Basically you open the fuel door and remove the little silver tab:
As you can see, it is about a 90 degree angle. This acts like a spring and pushes the door open when the cable is released so I bent it a little; perhaps 15 degrees:
The door pops open like this every time now:
I could bend it more and have the door fire open but this is good for me.
