Do you winter drive the altrac, or store it?
All wheel wheelspin on rainy days, fun fun. Reminds me of the days in my buddies talon.

No money for a winter beater so she is definitely my winter beast. Got all my parts to install still yet. FFFF. We should rebuild our motor together!

Aha, i'd love to see the differences between an altrac 3s and an mr2 3s. Probably not much other than the intercoolers and drivelines

As we know, spring is coming (great excite!)
In addition to the rebuild, I've been looking for lips for my car. I think a lip would really set it off.
This is the one I'm currently looking at:
            http://www.holycustomcreations.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=11
If i order now i could (hopefully) get it by May.

The only other lip i'd consider would be a 93+ lip, but those are hard to find :/

            Opinions?

            Also really digging this:

Little too extreme for the rest of the car. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Any other pictures of that lip on another car, preferably a different colour?

I think the spoiler would look ok. Nice and subtle.

Are you part of MR2.com? Just picked up an Aeroware front lip replica from a guy on the forums who makes them named Campos. 180 bucks shipped to Pembina Parcel. He is also making Aeroware roof spoiler replicas. Also at a decent price. Still wanna check out your MR2 when the snows all gone! Just thought I would throw it out there!

After doing loads of forum research, i found that the stock CT26 turbo on 3S-GTEs can only handle about 16psi, i was running 18. After 16 they cannot handle the exhaust flow at high rpms and tend to get exhaust reversion. This heats up combustion temps and pressures, which lead to the demise of my rings.
A kit is offered from ATS Racing (crazy 3sgte guys) called the CT27, which ports the turbine side, adds a new compressor wheel, and machines the compressor side. So in addition to the forged pistons this spring, I'm planning on getting this kit and a stiffer wastegate spring.

                          TL;DR

Moral of the story: Before increasing boost, make sure your turbo can handle it! (and everything else... ofcorse)
Also been looking at Work Emotion CR-Kai's. Opinions, Terp Ter?

ATS Racing is definitely the place to go for the 3S-GTE. Will look forward to seeing your car develop for spring!

                              Spring 2013 Rebuild Engine Swap!
                                         (carries on in following posts)

                              Finally an update!

Today since the weather was so nice, decided to go and pick up the car.

Now it's home and the rebuild can begin!

Won't be any updates for afew days, finish exams on tuesday.
After that hopefully progress will... progress. Hoping to have it done by the TTi Spring BBq!

oh yes, i also got my first speeding ticket today (dammit). $364.75. I was just cruising... and it wasn't even in my own car! sighhhhh

Sorry for the lack of updates guys... It's just a bugger to get the pictures off my phone.
                                Anyways,

The MR2 runs (has some difficulty starting) but starts to refuse to idle or really run well when warm.
Currently has low compression on three cylinders... so Father and I are tearing the car apart and getting the cylinders bored with forged internals.
We're planning on getting the bottom end built by competition engine (anyone heard/been a customer?) since we don't have the tools and don't feel like dealing with crank clearances and all that jazz.
                                We began working last week
Started removing intercooler piping and found oil in the pipes. Was expected, even though the car has been sitting for 10 months.
We entirely resealed the engine last winter, so were suprised to find a mysterious green liquid (not coolant) leaking. We think it's from the gearbox, probably leaking from the input shaft.
Also found that the A/C compressor is leaking all around... so probably gonna need a new one.

This is from the first night. Got the trut bar, intercooler piping, wheels and whatnot off.

A couple of hours and the engine was out. It was pretty simple, disconnected the harness from the car and left it attached to the engine, drained all the fluids and disconnected all the oil, coolant, A/C and vacuum lines, loosened the struts so we could remove the axles with the engine and transmission, dropped the subframe, loosened the motor mounts, then lifted the chassis away from the engine & transmission. I imagine this would be pretty hard if you didn't have a hoist...

Everything still looks pretty clean (only got 2000 miles on it last season)

To save some time we took the header, turbo and downpipe off the engine together as one. Took abit of wiggling, but it went fairly smoothly.

So here is where we sit current day:

Just afew hours of taking the top end apart, then we can see just how bad the damage is.
After that we'll order internals and send it off to competition engine, hopefully they're pretty speedy, I've got a mad itch to make it to the spring awakening meet. If not i might be turning up with my friend in his original mini.

Give me afew days or a week till the next update!

                                    Q: Why no updates?
                                    A: Been busy... sorry.

Q: Whats going on with the MR2?
                                    A: I have good news and bad news;

                                    Bad news first:

                                    Q: WTF?
A: Yep, cracked pistons. Three of the four. This one was the worst of them, you could actually take a chunk out it.
I wish that was all to report, but:

                                    Q: WTF?!?
A: ^That is a comparison of piston to wall clearance of cylinders #1 and #3 (#3 on the bottom).
Forum research says that this is common for gen 2 3S-GTE's, apparently the fuel rail is unbalanced, which causes #3 to run lean. So if you own a gen 2 3S-GTE, then you should probably get an aftermarket fuel rail.

                                    Q: So what next...
                                    A: This...

                                    A Gen 4 3S-GTE swap.

                                    Q: WHY a Gen 4?
A: MR2's came with Gen 2 & Gen 3 3S-GTE's, but never the Gen 4 (stopped SW20 production in 98, this engine came out 99). It's the most recent 3S-GTE, aswell as the most powerful. So more power and (hopefully) more reliability!

Q: Why isn't this swap common in MR2's?
A: Theres abit of custom work required (Some ECU mods, a custom downpipe, intercooler piping, throttle cable and fuel line).

The engine I'm planning on ordering tomorrow is in Quebec, to the tune of $1850. Thats with shipping, and an Altrac Transmission.

This is terrible but awesome at the same time lol. So this is the engine from the Caldina? What importer did you buy it from?

SIck engine, but much harder to get performance parts for then a Gen 3 or Gen 2 motor. One of the big things is the turbo is part of the manifold, so if you wanted to upgrade the turbo you have to get a manifold as well...etc. But the stock COP's and other items do make it a neat motor, not to mention decently rare.  I guess it all depends what your end goal for the car is.
