I donít know if anyone went to the meet yesterday but I think it was a pretty good turnout especially for the $10 admission fee didnít turn many people away. I got there around 9:30AM and there was well over 100 people in the gym and lifting didnít even start till 11. Lots of female competitors which was very surprising because none of them actually trained at brickhouse but I heard a decent amount came from out of province to do this meet to get the first out of the year out of the way.

I swear there must be a pile of resolutioners who think they could sneak in a month later without anyone noticing cause **** me Goodlife was PACKED yesterday. Proabably over 200 people for sure.

This was the main reason I switched from GoodLife to Anytime.  GoodLife was just getting too packed.

I didnít really notice anyone new at my gym. Maybe a couple people but thatís it. I guess New Years resolutioners want to get fit and arenít really into a powerlifting gym

It hasnt been too bad just the last couple weeks. I think its cause it was 11am so everyone wants to get the gym done and out of the way nice and early. Going to try and go later in the afternoons on weekends like I use to. Sucks cause Me and a buddy usually train Chest on saturdays and he got so angry and unmotivated after not being able to bench he just left. haha.

I think they just want the sport to grow so people that donít do provincials or nationals have a taste of competition at their own gym too.

Oh yeah oops, I donít know what I was thinking.

Whatís the qualifications for nationals? I heard to qualify for provincials is really low. Something silly like 1000 total will get you to provincials. Whatís it for nationals?

It depends on alot of things. Gender, age, weight class. Here's the charts. In general the open category has pretty good standards for national level. Junior and subjunior tend to be quite a bit lower, which makes sense to get subjunior lifters to go compete, but the junior totals are probably still too low. They have raised them all quite a bit in the last couple years, they were ridiculously low before.

huh according to that my total needs to be 1276 to qualify. Im close at 1205 total. Im sure If i stuck to an actual strength program I could shoot up past the 1275 mark easy

Yeah I thought it was kind of low too, but thereís still lots of lifters that canít hit that total. And thatís in meets too remember not just gym PRs.
I think the point of it is to get people out and encourage them to continue. Once you get to nationals itís obviously really hard to qualify for worlds. Plus just cause you qualify for nationals doesnít mean youíre going to travel to wherever it is which could be easily a $1000 meet.

I've done nationals the past 3 years but this year I'm not going, still working on rehabbing my back. Too bad too cuz this year was the big one I was really looking forward to for a while. Worlds is in Calgary this year too so that would be cool to go see. Powerlifting for me as fun as it is has also become a reason to travel and see places I wouldn't normally go see. First nationals was in St johns newfoundland so that was cool. Then last year was Saguenay Quebec and I've never been to quebec before that either, spent a day in Quebec City while I was there, that's and awesome city.

Benching today working up at a single RPE 8 and failed it , I was pretty pissed but itís my own fault. Got a guy from my gym to ďrefĒ it because heís doing his test to be certified for nationals and I got a really strict press command because I wasnít completely tight on my chest. Something to work on. Just sucks missing a lift that shouldíve been easy.

                                    Oh I didnít know that.

Yeah, I was supposed to test my bench next week RPE 10 but I donít know if we will anymore because of that RPE 8 that I failed (told the spotter to grab) because it was more like RPE 9.5 so we might just work on my weak point (staying completely still) and move forward.

He did say he was being super picky with the call but none the less.

Are you fairly new to pausing your bench? Once you get used to it you will probably be just as strong at pause bench as touch and go. Just takes some getting used to staying tight.

Yeah, been training for 5 years now but all touch and go, no ďbounceĒ
Only 4-5 months pausing maybe every second bench workout cause I got a coach and he programmed it and now we pause everything. I can pause heavy now no problem, but I didnít get a call from him cause I didnít stay completely still. I have bad nerves and I was moving on my chest. So I have to try and stay really tight and kind of row it to my chest to keep it still.
