With all the problems going on with VIU and such, I though I'd share this usefull info on knowing ones rights when dealing with the oppressive organization know as the WPD.

Feel free to add any info you may have. The more the better.

Awesome post Eddie! I advise everyone to have some sort of recording device on when pulled over by a cop. Its perfectly legal and you don't have to inform them they are being recorded. Some cops act like complete assholes and in most cases you can use the recording against them in court if it ever comes down to it. I got a voice recorder app on my homepage for quick access.

I know right, they go on major power trips, they think they have the authority to do what ever they want, but if we don't take action like carrying a recorder nothing will change. I'm going to pick up a recorder soon.

I know I'm bringing my gopro whenever I go for a cruise this summer. I've already had some trouble with asshole cops being dick towards me a few years ago and last year I didn't go out much since my car had been in the shop for most of the summer but this year I'm not taking any chances.

Isn't illegal to film the police? because there was a guy on a motorcycle in the states with a gopro on his helmet, he stopped because the police arrested someone, they Jailed him for like 15 years, and took all of his equipment.

No, it's definitely legal to film police.

So, you are telling me by this, cops cannot search my car unless they suspect drugs, alcohol or weapons....hmm..

So, if i have a radar detector, and they ask to search my car and i say is it because of drugs, booze or weapons and they say no, I can say since you have to viable grounds to search my car, you cannot search it.

                      Does that work

Very true:) I guess you can say that I am just looking for a fool proof way to prevent searches.  It just seems like a game of chess of asking the right questions and being polite to make sure both parties win in the end.

nope they can not do that. they need a warrent to search a locked compartment. Same with some trunks. if you have no flip down seats and no trunk release in the car, they can not search your trunk without a warrent. Ie- MK2 jettas. only way to open trunk is from the outside of the trunk

Same goes for enclosed subwoofers. I had a cop threaten to break apart mine in Thompson, because "I was coming out of a known drug trafficking part of the city and I have a nice car". Told him to F.O. and can gladly remove my subs via screwdrivers once hes attainted a warrant because he has a crappy basis for a search... Especially since I was working security at the time and was wearing my uniform after just dropping someone off from work.

There are exemptions to getting search warrants ie telewarrant and there are provisions that allow searches without warrants.

A policemens job is more about articulation ie if I can say why and for what reasons I searched and if there valid I win ;P lol

The mail/letter idea no good as I could pick it up and feel whats inside "this aint mail..." busted lol

Locked glove box would be broken into for a radar detector esp considering laser radar has radar detector detector... and lasers are precise. If you the only one on road I would search whole car...if multiple cars ur prob not speedin.

Mail doesn't have to be paper to be considered mail, unbusted?  Bubble wrap envelope would make it much harder to tell what is inside.
