    Got a decent amount of work done last night, started by taking off the intake and wiring harness to see if I could clean the block a little better with the degreasers and solvents, sadly little luck on that front. So I'm giving up for now.

    While I have the intake off I remembered i hadnt seen a plug for the knock sensor when I last had the loom on, so I started looking at my other two harness and remembered that the 00 - 02 use a 1pin knock sensor but the 02+ us a two pin. So I had to swap the knock sensor from my original motor over to the new motor. I couldn't find the plug because I was looking for a two pin plug... Also turns out that there is an interconnect between the wiring harness plug and the knock sensor plug for some odd reason. So I pulled the sensor off the old motor and then had to figure out how to remove the stud that holds the new style 2pin knock sensor from the new motor. Ended up using vice grips.

      I also decided to go ahead and paint the valve cover last night, having some second thoughts that I should have polished it.. but that would have been sooo much work, and I can always sand blast it off in the future if I really want. I also feel like the matte finish looked better... nothing is permanent though.

        I also replaced the lift bolts (flange bolts) while I had the cover off and the gaskets of course. looks very extremely minimal wear on the cams so that inspires confidence. Between paint coats and getting high I tried out the aluminum polish I picked up. Made the intake look pretty darn good, still needs work though, I also only did one tube. Found out it also works on my works which is nice.

        Can you tell which one is polished?

          Since the wiring harness I ordered is from a JDM Celica, it is lacking a speedo output, luckily I have two spares! So I started cutting and pulled a pin from the original harness and spliced it into the new harness. So much wiring work left to do to make this thing look really pretty, but I'm gonna focus on getting it running first.

              Put the intake and starter back on the motor last night, also painted the motor mounts and finished polishing the intake.

                  So this weekend and last night I spent more time cleaning and painting the engine bay, I'm pretty much happy with how it is and can finish up any more stuff when I complete the wire tuck and start shaving stuff.

                  I also did some more polishing on my wheels, this time I wet sanded with 2k then 3k then polish, it turned out much better than the first wheel I did so Im gonna have to redo that one. But thats okay, time spend is worth it.

                  I picked up some of the hoses and fittings I've been missing, only a few more vacuum lines need to be connected... but I honestly have no idea where they go yet haha.

                  Last night the engine pan miraculously fell off the motor. But seriously it was huge pain breaking that old seal, more like glue than a gasket. Also kinda concerned because I drained close to 5 litres of oil out of the motor, and its only supposed to hold 4.4L. So its got me thinking either someone just overfilled it and hopefully theres no damage to seals or gaskets internally, or they over fill it on purpose because it burns oil? I sure hope not :'( there was no coolant in the oil though, and no oil in the coolant so I'm hopeful.

                  Anyway I cleaned off the old gasket and painted the pan a pretty gloss black, then re installed it. Looks nice and clean in side at least. No signs of aluminum dust in the oil or anything like that.

                    Also decided it was time to put the exhaust manifold on, to do so I had to replace the old gasket obviously, but the manifold is designed to block off these 4 holes on the back of the block that are directly above the exhaust ports for the air injection system that was introduced in 03, I don't need these nor did this motor ever need them. So the old gasket blocked these ports, but the new gasket only does the actual ports, I had planned for this though and had a "block off kit" I got from the company I got the JDM engine harness from. basically its a tap and 4 plugs so you can thread the holes and insert the plugs. All went well until the tap decided to snap.

                    I was pretty rattled when it snapped but I took a deep breath and started brain storming. Ended up using a hardened punch to gently tap the tap in a counter clockwise direction until it spun out. Luckily I had another tap that was the same thread and was able to finish the rest with no issues.

                    Pardon the terrible quality on then next few photos, the lighting in the corner of my garage isn't great.
                    Anyway, the header was pretty dirty and while I was busting off what was left of the old gasket I noticed that there is a fairly large lip inside the port of the manifold that has no real reason to be there. So I grabbed a grinding wheel and ground it down a bunch and removed a bunch of the old carbon build up. Call it a half assed port and polish. I don't know if it will make any difference but I highly doubt it will hurt either.

                        Had another late night last night, I spent some time just staring at the car, trying to decide if there was anything left to do before I put the motor back in, I came to the conclusion that there was not. So last night I put the new motor in.

                        All the wiring plugged into the car side of the fuse box as it should so that was nice. I started putting stuff back on the motor as well, the ac compressor is mounted, the clutch slave cylinder, the heater core hoses are in place, as seen in the pictures, the GT hose was not long enough, good thing I bought the GTS one in advance. I hope to get the motor fired up tonight, I didn't have plugs for it and felt I might as well replace them. I'm not great with colouring so could someone tell me if the plugs look normal? Parts I still need to pick up, some coolant, tranny fluid, new plugs and some hand moisturizer.

                        Since the throttle body on the GTS is about .5" larger than the GT I need a new intake, turns out the ebay intake I bought previously for the car that didnt fit, was actually for the GTS, so I think I can find a way to make this work for the time being. I want to get a polished intake, but the matte black actually goes nice with the intake.

                        I would have kept working on this last night but for starters I was almost falling asleep laying under the car trying to put the power steering pump back in place, and this is when mistakes are made. Plus I was having a hecking time trying to get the pump in, the two mounts where it bolts on are the slightest bit to close together, seems to be the kind of mount where there is a steel sleeve in the mount that should move a bit but doesn't want to move. Might have to file it down till it fits, but I'll worry about that tonight.

                          Last night got some work done, no pics of progress, nothing to really see anyway.

                          Filled the engine and trans oil, put the axles in, wheels are back on, power steering is back in place, alternator is in, new spark plugs are in. Put the belt I had ordered on and it seems to be too long, I double and triple checked the routing and I really don't know why it doesn't fit. The part number on the belt matches what everyone on the forums says to get, but who knows. I'm hoping part source has a belt thats the same but 1 or 2 inches shorter.

                          I've figured out where the majority of vacuum and coolant lines go, just one or two more that I'm unsure of.

                          Gotta do a little more cleaning and touch up a couple paint scratches that occurred while putting the motor in, then put the rad fans in and connect the rest of the coolant lines, then put the ecu in and hope she starts.

                            Touched up the paint on a couple pieces that were barely painted originally, not a noticeable piece but it comforts me to know that if someone looks close its nice and painted haha.

                            Got the coolant overflow tank installed, rad support and rad fans, made a couple more vacuum connections, apparently one of the ones I was worried about doesn't actually matter and can just be plugged. Also figured out where the rest of the coolant lines went, I think.. this could explain another problem I'm having, uncertain at this point and need to fix other stuff first.

                            I still need to finish bleeding the coolant, but I have a bigger problem to deal with first, my idle is sitting at 2k for some reason. I figure its because the stupid iacv is gunked tf up and has seized, I had already tried to clean it before but judging by the amount of crud that was in there its not going to cut it. So I ordered a new on today and will have it early next week. I also think I have the bleeder hose off the block coming from the wrong port and needs to be switched with the one for the iacv, but should matter for idle because its only a temperature thing, not flow.

                            Other thing that bugging me but isnt necessarily an issue, when bleeding the coolant, I'm supposed to leave a cap off on the reservoir and watch the fluid that goes through, at first it came out slow and I could see bubbles coming through the line, but eventually they stopped and it was like pressure built up and it wanted to over flow so I capped it. Then I had to remove some coolant because it was over the fill line. I put the reservoir back to normal height and ran the motor for a while, I had to add some coolant. This was all okay but the only time the fans came on was when I first stated and it got a smidge hotter than normal, so I shut it off and added more coolant, then it was fine and stayed at the mid temp where it should be. But the fans never came on after and that concerned me a little. Thinking maybe the thermostat is staying open and its efficient enough to keep cool that way? I'll have to do lots more trouble shooting to narrow down the kinks.

                            But the good news is it runs, and thats a start. hehe pun not intended.

                              I started this a while ago but hadn't made any real progress until the last couple days.

                              Relocating the battery to the trunk as part of the wire tuck, this meant I had to run a new power wire directly from the battery to alt up front. I had already done this previously but I had a distro point on my battery terminal so the wire was made up of three pieces including the fused area, so I wanted it to be direct, plus a fuse of course, and my wire was not long enough. So I ran a new power wire last night, which was a pita, I don't have much skin left on my hand today from shoving my hand in a tight space to pull slack through on my power cable at a certain angle so it wouldn't catch on the enclosure. That wire is now run, and loomed/techflexxed.

                              Since the battery is going in the trunk it needs to be secured properly, so on sunday/monday I spent my time making a box to hold the battery, and a false floor to secure to the spare tire holder and then secure the battery box to that, and brace it forward against the rear strut brace.

                                I've decided to simply hide the speaker amp, its not much to see and the speaker wires are pretty short, so I will mount it where it used to be, but mounted properly and then covered by a shelf. I made up the mount last night and mounted the amp, next I need to mount the subwoofer amplifier, then build up the supports around the amp to support the floor, and figure out how to support the plexi window for the amplifier.
