how come so little vent area on that box?  I'm guessing 15s or 18s - you could have doubled that area no?

They are 18's, and the vent is not fully cut out, its going to be about 20" x 6" for an overall tuning of 29hz

that'll be a nice amount of vent area.  In the pic it looks like the vent is very close to the back wall - how are you going to combat edge loading?

because of the way the back wall is slanted im not too worried about it, it worked well this way for bracing, but if i do run into chuffing or the like, then there will be some modifications required, i will also be rounding and smoothing all the edges. what would you recommend?

chuffing isn't going to be your enemy here - its going to be edge loading and power compression.  Remember that the vent MUST be one ports dimension away from all panels its not using - so the back of that vent needs to be a minimum of 6" away from that back wall to actually work and do what you intend.  I strongly recommend that you focus on fixing this - and you'd be surprised as to how little the tuning changes by cutting a few inches off the vent.  What drivers are you using?

I'll be using two sundown audio zv3 18's, but I would like to get the X18's in the future. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought as long as there was sufficient ventilation behind the port ie. more area than in the back of the port, then the compression would only occur in the port, and not between the back wall and port. Since i am capable of fitting inside the box with the baffle on, i am not too worried, and if it sounds off, then i can always crawl inside with a hand saw lol. but you're absolutely right, shorting the port by about 6 inches on the bottom will leave the tuning around 31 instead of 29, not a big difference.
its the port volume that counts, not the length... well kinda :P
